Yay! I finished illustrating O Christmas Tree for Guardian Angel Publishing this week. It is a wonderful and unique way of telling the true meaning of Christmas. It was written By Lindsay Bonilla and the publisher is trying to get it out before the holiday season. Illustrating a Christmas book in August and September felt strange. I just popped on some Christmas music, cranked the air-conditioning up, put on my sweatshirt and sipped some hot cocoa. Season’s Greeting! :o)

Hey all,! Sorry I’ve missed the last few weeks. I’ve been laid up with an extreme case of bronchitis. I learned a lesson though...breathing is important :o) It felt like that commercial where the elephant is

sitting on the guys chest.... so I had to incorporate myself into the “IF” ferocious theme somehow :o)

From now on, I’ll just settle for my wife taking my breath away when she walks into the room :o) I’m

taking another week off work to recuperate and finish up another book that I have been working on. .... Feels good having some ‘doodling” time. God bless all my blogging friends out there and your loved ones.

I finished illustrating a book for ShadeTree Publishing, Zippy and the Stripes of Courage, written by Candida Sullivan. It is a wonderful story of being who God created us to be. It is scheduled for release in January 2012.

I was offered my first magazine cover recently for Stories for Children Magazine. I was so thrilled, especially to be illustrating the Thanksgiving issue.

...Also I just finished the third in the Klutzy Kantor series. It is a wonderful story about a sick elf who loses her hair. It is a wonderful story of sacrificial love.

In addition to making many “layered” cakes for his company, Charm City Cakes, Duff Goldman is a TV star. He appears on Ace of Cakes which features his bakery and some very unusual cakes. He is also quite the philanthropist , doing a lot of charity work. Finally he is also a musician, playing bass for a band named Soihadto. So he has almost as many layers as his cakes!

As a kid growing up in Chicago, we always heard stories of the Great Chicago Fire. It was said that Mrs. O’Leary’s cow kicked over a lantern and caused the fire that destroyed almost all of Chicago in 1871.

A few buildings were spared including the Chicago Water Tower which still stands today as a reminder of how Chicago rose from the ashes. Amazingly, because of a wind shift, the O’Leary home was spared and the cow was saved.

I always had a soft spot for the cow. She took the blame, but what idiot left a lantern on the barn floor anyway!

Jason's mother gave him 7 pieces of silver to go buy a cow. Jason spent the coins on a hockey mask, a butcher knife and 3 magic beans....well you know the rest of the story. However Jason's mother was never seen again!

As a kid, one of my favorite scenes from any movie, was the chariot race in Ben Hur.

For the Illustration Friday prompt this week of RACING, I was torn between Ben Hur and the Tortoise and the Hare. Hey! Why not do both!! So I give you BEN HARE.

I have to admit, depicting the mild mannered tortoise as the evil aggressor, left me a little rattled. After all, he was the underdog. He was the wise and patient hero/victor in the original.

Then, upon closer observation, I noticed something protruding from under the tortoise's flow-ing red cape. What is that? It looks like a...a....wolf's tail! Has The Big Bad Wolf made another appearance in yet another fable, disguised as the tortoise and anticipating the post-race victory feast of rabbit stew?

OK now I feel much better.

Ahhhh! I finished this book for Guardian Angel Publishing. The name of the story is Sh Sh Sh Will the Baby Sleep? It is written by Kathy Stemke. It's about a boy who dreams of great adventures while trying to keep everything quiet so his baby sister can sleep. It should be out early next year.
